“Within the Catholic Church, a Marian apparition refers to a supernatural appearance of the Blessed Virgin Mary to one or more people.” (Google AI search)

This year our reflections for the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel will focus on nine Marian apparitions that have been approved by the Catholic Church. They are understood as expressions of Mary’s ongoing maternal care for the Church, and their purpose is to draw attention to a specific aspect of the Christian message relevant to a particular time and place.

“This motherhood of Mary in the order of grace continues uninterruptedly.... Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix” (CCC: 969)

Each night during the novena a different Marian apparition will highlighted. These appearances of the Virgin Mary often include messages or signs meant to inspire faith or address specific needs within the Church.
