My Call to Carmel BY JOAN SCULTZ

Joan Schultz, T.O.Carm.
Joan Schultz
T.O. Carm.
I was born in Erie, PA on August 15th (the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin). I was always made to feel special because I was born on a holy day. My parents sent my brother who was 18 months older than me to spend 8 years attending Sacred Heart grade school. We went Mass every day before school. In those days we went to confession once a month so we could receive Holy Communion on the First Friday of the month.

My education continued at a public high school, then on to complete third nursing school program at S. Vincent’s Hospital, a year program.

I met my husband Ken, husband of 51 years, when he was on leave from the Navy. We started dating in October of 1955, just after my graduation and his discharge from the service. We married the following September. We moved to Virginia and were blessed with 3 beautiful children. [Read the entire article...]

THE LENTEN JOURNEY:
Conversion and Transformation
COLLECTED BY
JOHN CASSIDY

Our walk with Christ is about transformation from darkness to light. One step at a time. The Lenten Journey is a special time for this transformation to take place. A time for conversion from old ways.
Mary, Therese, St. John, Blessed Elizabeth,Titus Brandsma, Benedicta

“If we were to to uproot only one vice each year we should soon become perfect.”
The Imitation of Christ, Thomas à Kempis

The Christian faith of the first century of Christianity was centered on the person and work of Jesus Christ. The preeminence of Christ was the focus of the early preaching in the church. Christianity is Christ, and as in many other passages. “Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 2:5-11

Even before His incarnation, Jesus was in the form of God and was equal to God. Jesus Christ eternally possesses all of God’s attributes. He is God. he existed in the form of God, is not referring to a bodily appearance, but is a strong way of proclaiming the deity of Jesus Christ. His deity never alters or changes.

Jesus, in His high priestly prayer the night before His crucifixion, referred to His glory which I even had with You before the world was.
John 17:5

He was referring to the glory He enjoys on par with His heavenly Father.

The event that staggers the mind almost beyond comprehension is the fact that the Second Person of the Trinity laid aside the manifestation of His divine glory and took upon Himself the form of a common household slave. He became flesh. He is the God-man. He was fully God and fully man. He is God in the flesh. The Word became flesh, and pitched His tent in our very midst, testifies the apostle.
John 1:14,18

ST. JOSEPH
Protector of Our Lord,
Spouse of Our Lady
From a sermon by... SAINT BERNARDINE
of SIENA

St. Joseph's Feast Day is March 19th

St. Joseph
St. Joseph was noted for his willingness to immediately get up and do what God told him. Everything we know about the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus comes from Scripture.

We know he was a carpenter, a working man, for the skeptical Nazarenes ask about Jesus, "Is this not the carpenter's son?" (Matt 13:55). He wasn't rich for when he and Mary took Jesus to the Temple to be circumcised to be purified he offered the sacrifice of two turtledoves or a pair of pigeons, allowed only for those who could not afford a lamb. (Lk 2:24).

Sr. Libby’s Visit BY MARILYN CASSIDY

Sr. Libby visited our community February 3, 2008

Sr. Libby Dahlstrom
I am happy to share the points of interest I noted during Sr. Libby [Dahlstrom]’s presentation. I loved her opening statement that “all Carmelites are little bundles of desire” in our relationship with Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. She reminded us of the words of Our Lady at the wedding feast of Cana: “Do whatever He tells you to do”.

Sr. Libby talked about how all of us receive guidance from Jesus that we want to ignore. She compared this to Spiritual Lysol. We disinfect Christ’s message from its power to convict us. One example is forgiving 70 x 70. This command to forgive does not depend on the intentionality of the other person. Forgiving and excusing are two different things. Forgiving is an act of your will. Keep in mind the parable of the last judgment, “Whatever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me”. We, at times, can forget that we are sinners, so remembering that line “that you do unto me” helps us to acknowledge our shortcomings.
