I was born, raised, baptized
and received the Catholic
Faith at Holy Cross Church in
St. James, Beaver Island,
Michigan. Beaver Island is
about 6 miles wide and 13
miles long. It is the largest of
eight islands located in
Northern Lake Michigan
close to the southern border
of Canada.
Historically, the island and the
surrounding areas had been
settled by French, Norwegian,
German and Irish immigrants.
Because most of the settlers
were Irish, the island became
known as the Emerald Isle.
Currently, there are about 600
residents residing there the
year round. Various tribes of
American Indians also lived in
this general Northern area
and it is the site where many
North American Jesuit missionaries
were martyred.

For most of my life I have
had a deep devotion to
Our Lady and to St. Therese.
St. Therese’s “Little Way of
Spiritual Childhood” have
attracted me and gave me the
inspiration and hope to grow
in God’s love and holiness by
trying to do the little things in
my daily live experiences with
greater love. I have a friend
who has been a Carmelite for
many years who introduced
me to a Carmelite priest who
has been providing me with
spiritual direction. He suggested
that I continue to pray
for guidance and that being
part of a Lay Carmelite
Community would be a good
option to pursue.
